Trisequens is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) preparation. It`s ingredients are forms of the main female sex hormones. Estradiol hemihydrate is a naturally occuring form of oestrogen and norethisterone acetate is a synthetic form of progesterone. Trisequenss is usually used as a supplement to reduce the distressing symptoms of the menopause.
Trisequens is also used to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
How to use this product
It consists of three types of tablets. One blue tablet, which contains the active ingredient estradiol hemihydrate, should be taken for twelve days. Then one white tablet which contains estradiol hemihydrate and norethisterone acetate, should be taken daily for ten days. The red tablets containing a lower dose of the estradiol hemihydrate, should then be used for six days.
Side effects
The following side effects have been registered: Breast pain, tenderness or enlargement. Breakthrough bleeding and spotting.
Headache/migraine, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence, indigestion, leg cramps, fatigue,
weight changes, vaginal thrush, depression, nervousness, dizziness, changes in libido, rise in blood pressure, gall bladder disease, peripheral oedema, skin reactions such as rash and itch, steepening of corneal curvature,
disturbance in liver function, chloasma,
blood clots in the blood vessels.
Precautions
Not to be used, or to be used by caution by persons with a history of: breast cancer, fibrocystic breast disease, endometriosis, endometrial hyperplasia, fibroids in the womb, family history of blood clots in the veins, recurrent miscarriage, systemic lupus erythematosus, severe obesity or varicose veins, high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, migraine, gall stones, epilepsy, heart failure, decreased kidney function, raised levels of triglyserides in the blood.
Drug Interactions
It is always wise to check with your physician before taking any new medicines while Trisequens, to ensure that the combination is safe. The following medications may interact with this one:
Antiepileptic medicines, Barbiturates, Protease inhibitors for HIV infection, Rifamycin, Antibiotics such as rifabutin and rifampicin, The herbal remedy St John's wort (Hypericum perforatum).
