Gonal is a synthetic version of naturally occurring follicle stimulating hormone. It works by helping eggs develop in the ovaries. Gonal is used as a fertility medication by women who have not been able to become pregnant as a result of problems with ovulation.

Side effects
Common side effects are: abdominal bloating,
diarrhea, nausea, flu- or cold-like symptoms,
unusual passing of gas, vaginal bleeding between menstrual periods.
Other side effects may occur.
Precautions
Gonal should not be used by anyone who has: high levels of FSH, uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal dysfunction, a lesion in the brain, any cause of infertility other than lack of ovulation unless is a candidate for assisted reproductive technologies, abnormal uterine bleeding, an ovarian cyst or enlargement of undetermined origin, sex-hormone-dependent tumours of the reproductive organs and breasts, is pregnant or
breast-feeding, an allergy to follitropin alpha or any of the ingredients of the medication.
